Senecio Rowleyanus - String of Pearls or Bead Plant, is an excellent, easy care and unusual trailing succulent, ideally suited to the home. Native to South West Africa this vigorous creeping vine will fill a pot then cascade over the side, so is best suited in a hang pot or trailing from a high shelf.

String of Pearls prefers a bright position, and will tolerate occasional direct sun.

Keep the compost slightly moist during the growing season, Spring to Autumn. Beads that appear flat are a sign that the soil has been kept too dry, so water thoroughly to revive. Then continue to keep just moist, they do not tolerate constant soggy soil.

Ideally suited to average room temperatures while growing, between18-25c is ideal.

Average room humidity is fine, they don`t mind dry air.

Minimum Temp: 13c

String of Pearls likes a Winter rest. Reduce watering, but don`t allow the compost to dry out completely. This Winter rest may encourage your plant to flower next Spring.

As a member of the succulent family these plants are shallow rooted so do not need repotting very often. If needed keep the crown of the plant at the same soil level and use a free draining Cacti / Succulent compost.

Feed once a month with half the recommended dose of liquid fertiliser.

Propagation by stem cuttings is usually successful. Take a 10cm cutting from the tip of a stem and press in to the moist soil, will usually root quickly.

Warnings:

Problematic to children and pets if consumed.

Best practice is to keep out of reach of children and pets.
