These plants are incredibly difficult to come by, if you want to be one of the very few plantaholics who have one then we currently have some available.
Monstera Burle Marx Flame.
A rare Monstera with unique thick, glossy flame shaped leaves, undulating edges and deep fenestrations.
Native to South and Central America, this rare form is another of the most wanted Aroids.
A mature Burle Marx Monstera offers an elegance that few other plants can match.
Secrets of success:
Burle Marx is not a low light plant, they prefer bright, indirect light, which mimics sun light through the jungle canopy.
Too little light will result in small, less dramatic leaf growth, and leads to issues with potential root rot, as the plant isn`t using water fast enough.
In Summer - water thoroughly then allow 50 to 75% of the compost to become dry before watering again.
They are slow growing compared to most other Monstera, and the thicker leaves can store moisture for longer, so be careful not to overwater.
As a slow grower fertilise sparingly during Spring and Summer, a quarter strength dose of liquid houseplant feed twice a month is sufficient.
In warmer months misting the plant will increase humidity, again replicating its natural habitat.
Burle Marx is a tropical plant, so warm temperatures between 20-29c are ideal
Avoid cold draughts and temperatures below 15c
In its natural habitat Monstera are climbing plants, so larger specimens usually come attached to a moss pole. As it grows Monstera produce aerial roots, which will attach themselves to the moss pole for support. Generally no need to prune.
Reduce the quantity and frequency of watering during the cooler Winter months, once every 3 to 4 weeks might suffice, just make sure that the compost dries thoroughly between waterings. Do not fertilise.
Re-pot if necessary, approx. every 2 to 3 years, when you see excess roots through the drainage holes of the pot, or when it seems that the pot is so full of roots that you tend to have to water every couple of days. Only use a slightly larger pot, and a course mix of free draining compost.
Warnings:
Problematic to pets if consumed. Causes irritation and swelling in the mouth.
Best practice is to keep out of reach.
