Product Overview
Ficus Pumilla – The Creeping Fig.
Native to East Asia Ficus Pumilla are pretty little evergreen climbers. They are very easy care, in fact it`s hard to stop them growing. Several varieties, in green and variegated look great creeping across the top of a pot, in a hang pot, trailing from a high shelf, or given something to cling to and climb. Often a great alternative to English Ivy, they`re less finicky and withstand aggressive pruning.
Creeping Fig like bright, indirect light, but must avoid strong direct sun as the leaves will scorch and shrivel.
Water well through Spring and Summer, then make sure that the top 1/3rd of the compost dries before watering again.
Fertilise with a diluted half strength liquid feed once a month through Spring and Summer.
To control the size prune back as much as you like in early Spring, just before the vigorous new growth starts. Alternatively just let it do its thing.
Normal humidity is just fine, an occasional misting on particularly hot days will help keep the foliage lush.
Although too tender to consider an outdoor plant Creeping Fig are quite tolerant and can benefit from being kept outside, in dappled light, once night time temperatures are above 10c. Remember to bring back indoors late Autumn before temperatures dip too low.
Minimum Temp: 10c
In Winter, when temperatures are lower, and growth is slow, reduce the amount and frequency of water, again making sure to allow the soil to dry between watering. This will take longer, so don`t be hasty.
Repot in Spring approx. every 2 years if you want your plant to increase in size. Only use a slightly larger pot and good quality free draining compost.
If you want to keep the plant smaller through pruning, you can also remove the plant from its pot and prune the roots to restrict growth.
Warnings: Not listed as toxic to pets or humans, although may cause skin irritation.
