Ceropegia Woodii.

String of Hearts, obviously called because of the pretty heart shaped leaves, but also Rosary Vine as it produces small, bead-like tubers at intervals along the stem, giving it the appearance of a rosary. A very attractive and easy care addition to your home. Ideal in a hang basket or trailing from a shelf.

Although not a true succulent, Ceropegia are able to store quite a lot of water in its stem and leaves. With this in mind make sure that you water accordingly. During the growing months, Spring to early Autumn, when the plant is producing new leaves, and potentially some small, lantern like flowers, water thoroughly then allow the top half of the soil to dry out before watering again. Depending on its position water approximately once every 5-7 days. Don`t keep constantly wet or allow to sit in water.

In its natural habitat ceropegia don`t get much shade, so bright light and some direct sun is fine. Too little light will result in pale leaves and little growth. Normal room temperatures are ideal, between 18-24c.

In Winter these plants like to rest. Reduce watering considerably, keeping almost dry. It might appear a little droopy but don`t be tempted to give extra water.

Protect from cold draughts.

As mentioned these pretty little vines produce bead-like tubers at intervals along the stem. Simply place this tuber, while still attached to the mother plant, on to a pot of free draining compost. Gently mist the soil, so it`s just damp. The tuber should take root and begin to grow new leaves. At this point cut away from the mother plant, and you have a new ceropegia to enjoy.

Pruning isn`t normally required.

Fertlise while growing with a balanced liquid feed as per directions. Stop feeding in late Summer as the plant slows down and prepares to rest for Winter.

Ceropegia are happier in a small pot, with slightly restricted roots. If you need to re-pot only use a slightly larger pot and make sure to use good, free draining compost. Cacti or Succulent compost is ideal.
