Aspidistra Elatior – The Cast Iron Plant.
As its name suggests this is one tough customer. Its ability to cope with poor light and fluctuating temperatures make it nearly indestructible. Once common place in elegant Victorian homes, they have regained their popularity due to their easy nature. When it comes to light, it doesn`t really matter where you put the Aspidistra, as long as it isn`t in direct sunlight. Bright, indirect light is best to achieve growth, but as above it will live quite happily literally anywhere. Likewise with watering, Aspidistra tolerate quite a lot of abuse. Again the only thing that will harm the plant is constant over watering. The best way is to water thoroughly, then allow the top half of the soil to become dry before watering again. If kept in a shady place then this will take longer than in a bright position, so don`t be hasty.
