Product Overview
Stephanotis Floribunda – Madagascar Jasmine.
A beautifully scented climbing vine that`s considered a traditional symbol of marital happiness, or a modern symbol of good fortune.
The dark, glossy green foliage, and highly scented, tubular, star shaped flowers create one of the most luxuriantly fragrant plants available.
Originally native to Madagascar, Stephanotis can now be found more widely spread. Wild vines can grow up to 5 metres, but domestic plants remain shorter.
Can be grown on or around a frame, left to trail, or however you like.
Stephanotis are best kept in bright, indirect light during Spring and Summer, and a brighter, cooler spot in Winter when the plant will rest and reserve its energy for the following years growth and flowering.
Water moderately in flower, preferably with tepid water, as Stephanotis can drop their buds and flowers if stressed. Allow at least a third of the compost to dry between watering.
Avoid moving the plant once buds have formed.
Extra humidity, and an occasional misting will benefit the plant.
Feed twice a month in Spring and Summer. A houseplant feed is fine, although a high potassium feed, such as a Tomato feed, will help prolong flowering.
Minimum Temp: 15c
Stephanotis require a Winter dormancy period, where temperatures are ideally about 5c lower than the year round average, or approx. 15-17c. This will heighten the chance of successful flowers next season.
Keep drier, allowing about half of the compost to dry between watering, and dilute feed with a houseplant feed only approx. once every 4-6 weeks.
Place in a bright spot, with several hours of morning, or evening Sun is ideal.
Buds will usually form in Spring, when you can again treat as above.
Prune if required after flowering to improve the appearance. Do not prune in Spring as buds are forming.
Repot if necessary every 2 to 3 years, using good quality peat free Houseplant compost.
