Spathiphyllum, the Peace Lily, is one of the most loved and popular plants grown. Their enduring appeal is easy to see as they are simple to care for, beautiful and elegant, and recognised as one of the best plants available to filter the air in your home of harmful toxins. The common name Peace Lily comes from the flower which looks like a white flag raised in surrender.

Often considered an ideal plant for a shady position, the peace lily will adapt and survive although may not flower. For better growth it prefers a light spot, but absolutely no direct sun, as the leaves will scorch badly.

When watering try to keep the compost evenly moist, although easily adapts to watering thoroughly then being allowed to become just dry before watering again. If neglected Peace Lily recover amazingly from wilting, try not to let this happen too often as the leaves will suffer from yellowing.

Room temperature 18-24c is fine, avoid hot or cold draughts.

Minimum Temp: 16c

Remove faded flowers by cutting close to the base.

Peace Lily is not a heavy feeder so only requires a diluted half strength fertiliser once a month while in flower, usually Spring and Summer.

Plants tend to bloom better when slightly pot bound so repot only when necessary.

In Winter when growth is slow reduce watering and don`t fertilise.

Contains crystals of calcium oxalate, to deter livestock from eating them. Therefore problematic to pets and humans if consumed. Causes irritation and swelling in the mouth. Best practice is to keep out of reach.
