Product Overview

Philodendron Silver Queen.

A beautiful tropical vine with long arrow shaped leaves which are glossy silver, with symmetrical veining. Native to Brazilian rainforests it`s another plant that will make a great addition to your indoor jungle. As with most tropical plants it`s not too difficult to create their natural environment at home, so follow these tips to enjoy the Silver Queen. Quite a collectors plant, and not commonly found, so make sure to get one while you can.

They prefer bright, indirect light, which mimics sun light through the jungle canopy. They will easily tolerate a shadier spot but will grow more slowly and become taller and thinner. Must avoid strong, direct sun.

Like most other Aroid plants Silver Sword likes a good drink, then allowed to dry slightly before watering again. They require loose free draining soil, so the water can easily filter through.

In growth, Spring through Summer, water thoroughly then allow the top 2-3 inches of compost to become dry before watering again. You might need to do this once or twice a week.

Grouping together with other plants, standing on a tray of moist gravel, or an occasional misting will help increase humidity, again replicating its natural habitat.

Fertilise once a month in Spring and Summer with a balanced foliage plant liquid feed as per instructions.

Daytime temperatures of 18-25c are ideal.

In Winter, when temperatures can be lower, and growth is slow, reduce the amount and frequency of water, making sure to allow the soil to dry. This will take longer, so don`t be hasty.

Night-time temperatures down to 15c.

Avoid cold draughts and sources of direct heat.

In its natural habitat Philodendron are climbing plants. As they grow they will attach themselves to a support. A moss pole is a perfect method.

Re-pot once the roots have filled the current size pot, approx. every 2 years, using good quality free draining compost.

Allow to grow until it reaches the maximum size that space allows, you can then prune them to remain that size.

Make the most of the plant by keeping the leaves clean and dust free by wiping with a soft damp cloth.

Warnings: Contains raphides, crystals of calcium oxalate, to deter livestock from eating them. Therefore problematic to pets and humans if consumed. Causes irritation and swelling in the mouth. Best practice is to keep out of reach.
