Product Overview
Jasmine Polyanthum – The common Chinese, or Star Jasmine is a vigorous, highly scented climbing plant that is best kept in an unheated room, or conservatory, where it will look fantastic and will provide masses of highly fragrant, small star-shaped flowers in late Winter through to Spring. You will never forget the smell, and association of Jasmine, once you have smelt it. Will often acclimatise to being planted outdoors in a frost free sheltered position.
In the home Jasmine require bright light, with a little early morning, or late afternoon sun, but must avoid strong direct Sun.
While it`s actively growing and flowering then Jasmine need to be kept constantly moist, allowing just the top of the compost to dry slightly between watering. Drying out will result in bud loss and brown flowers.
Fertilise moderately, they are not heavy feeders, approx. once a month from Spring to Autumn with a balanced houseplant liquid feed, as per instructions. This will encourage growth and flowering next season.
Temperature is important to Jasmine only in that it needs the correct cycle of seasons to form the flower buds. High temperatures in Summer aren`t a problem, as long as it`s followed with cooler days and nights of Autumn and Winter. Buds will start to appear in Autumn / Winter, so keep the soil moist and you will enjoy many weeks of the heavy scented flowers. After flowering cut back the brown and crispy flowers to keep the vine looking attractive. You can`t really keep it in a constantly warm, heated room all year, it will either fail to flower, or will produce far fewer than it should.
Minimum Temp: 5c
Jasmine are vigorous and can be re-potted each spring, once the roots have filled the current size pot.
Jasmine will need something to cling to and climb, so you`ll need to provide a trellis, or moss pole.
Prune to a desired shape, or size, in early Spring before the new growth.
Buds only appear on the most recent growth of the plant, so don`t be tempted to keep continually pruning as you may end up with no flowers.
