Product Overview

Aeonium Arboreum.

These stunning, branching Succulents, native to the Canary Islands, make a real statement outdoors in containers for most of the year. They`re super easy to keep, so are great if you tend to neglect your plants sometimes. The tall branching stems, with large rosettes of green, maroon, and nearly black are some of our favourites. With a few simple care tips you can enjoy these all year round. Originating from the coastal areas of the Canaries they have adapted to like a little more moisture than desert succulents, but still only require checking for water about once a week.

Aeoniums are slightly unusual in that their main growing season is from Autumn to Spring, they remain dormant during the hottest parts of the year in their natural environment.

Aeoniums are shallow rooted, this makes them able to survive quite happily in fairly shallow containers.

If kept indoors place the Aeonium near the brightest window in your home.

As mentioned Aeoniums do like a little more moisture than other succulents, but this doesn`t mean getting to heavy handed with the watering can. Apart from Summer, when the plant is dormant, adopt the soak and dry method. Water thoroughly then allow the top 2 inches of the compost to dry between watering. Check by sticking your finger in to the top of the compost, if there`s moisture hold off on watering. You`ll probably find they need watering once every 7-10 days depending on position.

In Winter, when temperatures are cooler, you will also find that it takes longer for the compost to dry, so again make sure to check that the top 2 inches of compost is dry between watering.

Fertilise sparingly once a month through Autumn to Spring with a diluted half strength liquid feed.

In Summer cut back on watering to about once a month, and do not feed.

Happy in a wide range of temperatures, anywhere between 10-30c

Minimum Temp: 4c

If kept outdoors, before and after the threat of frost, they are best in a container in a slightly sheltered spot, in bright, indirect light. Full on Summer sun can still burn them slightly. Water as above, making sure to dry between watering.

Bring in to a frost free position once temperatures start to fall.

Re-pot in Autumn, once every 2-3 years, using good quality houseplant compost, and only a slightly larger pot.

Easily propagated by stem cuttings. Cut a short section of stem, with a rosette above, allow to callous over for several days, then pot in to good quality compost, just deep enough to hold the cutting upright. Give just a little water once a week. Hopefully it should develop a new root system within a couple of months.

Warnings: Non-toxic. Safe for pets and humans.
